Mental Health Journey

How to start my journey towards Mindfulness?

Do you feel satisfied with who you are, what you have, your achievements these days?? Knowing what you are and what you want comes with awareness about your own self. What you feel when someone says something to you, how you deal with your problems in life, how you respond to emergency situations, how you feel whatever you feel, what affects your mental health ā€¦..and so on. All of such questions come down to highlight only one thing.- How mindful are you?

Mindfulness is being aware of yourself, your emotions, feelings, thoughts, actions and everything?one in your surroundings. Being Mindful is being presently aware. Mindfulness is about being more present and aware of your behaviour in each moment. So, how to be mindful? Let’s talk about some simplest ways in which we can get used to being mindful ā€¦

1. Meditate

Taking even just 5 minutes to sit quietly and follow your breath can help you feel more conscious and connected for the rest of your day. Meditation can be breathing exercises, Yoga, Chanting some mantra, exercise or anything that involves you being peaceful, concentrated and connected with yourself consciously.

2. Slow down

enjoy the process of each and every thing you do throughout the day. Deliberate and thoughtful attention to daily actions promotes healthy focus and can keep you from feeling overwhelmed. Cluttering your mind, overthinking about everything just keeps our mind extra busy and makes it exhausted.

3. Focus on one thing at a time

Studies have found that tasks take 50% longer with 50% more errors when multitasking, so consider ā€œone thing at a timeā€, with necessary breaks in between. Overworking and multitasking can take you to an overwhelming place where you can’t focus on anything and end up getting nothing out of it. Completing one thing in hand before going to the next one gives us a sense of achievement, productivity and less possible errors. Most importantly it gives your mind a slow and steady pace to think and work, plus it’s easier to do one thing at a time than doing multiple things and overburdening yourself.

4. Move

Whether itā€™s walking, practising yoga, or just stretching at your desk, become aware of your bodyā€™s sensations by moving. Give some motion to the organs and get the blood running.

5. Get some air

Take walks through a park, the woods, go trekking or on the beachā€“ anywhere outside your usual environment. Getting outdoors keeps you in the present and refreshes the mind .

You give yourself a much needed appreciation when you can remember to take things one step at a time, be present in each moment, focus on your internal environment as well as be aware of your external surroundings and be aware, present and mindful of the smallest things in lifeā€¦
